Professor Sir John Bell: Companion of Honour (CH), Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (GBE), and Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS); previously served as the Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford University and the President and CEO of the Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford.
He was President of the United Kingdom’s Academy of Medical Sciences between 2006 and 2011; Chair of the Office for the Strategic Coordination of Health Research until 2017; Chair of the Rhodes Trust; and UK Life Sciences Champion since 2011.
Sir John was appointed Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in 2015 and Companion of Honour in 2023 for services to medicine, medical research, and the life science industry. He co-developed and wrote both the 2017 UK Life Sciences Industrial Strategy and the 2021 Life Sciences Vision, providing recommendations to HM Government on ensuring the long-term success of the life sciences sector. Sir John led the development of the Old Road Campus in Oxford and contributed extensively to the UK response to COVID-19.
